Route 66 | Day 12
From Birth...
Today we are leaving Williams, our overnight stop, heading to some unique towns on Mother Road (among with the Birthplace of the Historic Route 66 itself) that have retained their retro looks and offer visitors roadside architecture with the charm of old days!!!
The towns of Seligman, Hackberry and Oatman will time travel us to a nostalgic era of classic cars, retro signs and authentic Wild West saloons!
I will just let the pictures speak for themselves…

Route 66 | Day 13
...through Sin
Time for a small break in the city of entertainment, extravagance and vibrant nightlife, the Sin City of Las Vegas!
We will spend one full day here, trying to understand why people are so addictively in love with Las Vegas and how it feels like being in America’s biggest playground!
5 innocent things you can still do in Vegas:
- Enjoy the amazing dancing fountains of Bellagio.
- Ride the Las Vegas’ High Roller; the tallest observation wheel in the world (much taller than the London Eye)!
- Stroll along the LINQ Promenade, one of the most beautiful pedestrian streets, stretching from the High Roller to the Strip.
- Check out some of the most famous World Landmark Replicas scattered around Las Vegas; the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomph, the Egyptian Pyramids, the Venice’s Grand Canal and the Fontana di Trevi. Did I maybe miss any?!?!?
- Experience a volcano eruption outside the famous Mirage Hotel on Las Vegas Boulevard.

Route 66 | Days 14-15
to Death...
On Days 14 and 15 of our Route 66, we decided to detour once again in order to visit the world-famous Death Valley! And we totally recommend everyone to do the very same!
Thinking ahead and especially considering the high temperatures we would be encountering in the area, we agreed to approach one of the main gates of the park (Furnace Creek) and spend one night in the nearby town of Beatty. This would allow to enter the park very early in the morning, hoping that like this we would be able to escape the big heatwave!
On our way to Beatty, and heading in the direction of Mercury, we decided to pay a visit to the Nevada National Security Site, a place where US is testing its nuclear weapons! We had read that organized group tours are offered, but it proved out to be harder than just knocking NNSS door! We were stopped by security who answered to our request for joining a tour by saying in an austere tone “Absolutely NOT”!!!
But all lovers of Dark Tourism, please check here how you can enter the site by bypassing the macho security guys (where there is a will, there is a way!!!).
Slightly disappointed of our failed attempt, we started looking for the way to Area 51 (we had plenty of free time, I guess!). If the name of Area 51 does not ring a bell, then obviously you are not much of a conspiracy theorist! In short, among other theories, this place is believed to be the secret testing facility for what we all know as Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO). Once again, we hadn’t done much of our homework, and found out that the Extraterrestrial Highway would take us way off our destination. Thus, we ended up visiting the Area 51 Alien Center instead for some shopping!
